I'm a lifelong tennis player who started as a kid with a widebody tennis racquet that ate strings and who eventually went on to own a stringing machine to feed my racquets more strings. Because I loved tennis as a kid, I made friendship bracelets out of stringing scraps because friendship bracelets just happened to be a thing at the time.
Fifteen years later, I went to a tennis tournament for the first time as an adult. I noticed that not much had changed at the concession stands - still a lot of overpriced t-shirts and souvenirs like tennis ball key chains and jumbo tennis balls. But more importantly, I remembered how I felt looking at the offerings as a kid. The feeling of sadness/defeat when I realized that taking home a piece of the sport would cost me more than i had in my wallet.
I did and still do understand that tennis is an expensive sport, and that lack of accessibility often makes it less inclusive. I decided to make something for all fans to enjoy so that we can all feel that we are part of the sport. I started tinkering with some strings again, determined to make a modern version of a tennis bracelet.
Several years and countless trials and prototypes later, here we are. I hope the Stringlet can let every player and fan carry a piece of the sport so that they can feel that they are a part of the tennis community.
